Education

We believe in the power of education and training to change the lives of the people we serve and the range of programmes we fund reflects this. Children living in poor communities and in refugee settlements or camps are given the opportunity to attend school, while adults in these circumstances take classes in languages, computers and vocational skills including tailoring and hairdressing.

Because of education programmes supported by Irish Jesuits International, women living in refugee camps in Maban, South Sudan are training to become schoolteachers – a significant achievement in a country so decimated by civil war and poverty that most of its population is illiterate.
