Irish Jesuits International is active throughout Africa and Asia collaborating with missions in China, Ethiopia, India, Kenya, Lebanon, Malawi, Nigeria, South Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda and Zambia.

JRS Kenya provides emergency provisions to refugees in Kakuma Camp to mitigate the effects of Covid-19. St Joseph's Development Programme in Kangemi Slum distributes food and sanitation supplies during the pandemic.

JRS Lebanon supports refugees from Syria and Palestine who are living in the Bar Elias and Baalbek regions of Lebanon through providing blankets to help them through a harsh winter, and emergency food and sanitation supplies to mitigate the effects of the Covid-19 outbreak.

The Jesuit Centre for Ecology and Development (JCED) runs a programme in Lilongwe and Kasungu which provides farming communities in rural villages with the skills to protect their livelihoods from the effects of climate change.

JRS Nigeria provides basic provisions to refugees from neighbouring Cameroon to help them cope with the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic.

South Sudan

South Sudan

JRS South Sudan is in Juba, Maban, and Yambio. Its work includes education programmes and psychosocial support for refugees and the host community. In recent years JRS has also responded to emergencies caused by flooding, and Covid-19 in the country. It is supported by the Xavier Network.

The Jesuit Eastern Africa Province supports Radio Kwizera - a community radio station - to broadcast on health issues, to educate and inform listeners and therefore help to prevent illness.

JRS Uganda provides supports and training for urban refugees in the capital Kampala and runs education programmes for refugee schoolchildren in the Adjumani region, close to South Sudan.

The Jesuit Centre for Theology and Reflection in Lusaka empowers local communities who are on the margins because of lack of education and poverty, to stand up for their human rights by influencing public policy that affects their access to education, healthcare, clean water and sanitation.
